Global Read Aloud 2014 - Starting Week 10!

Breakdown for the 6 weeks:
TERM 3

Week 10: Chapters 1 - 4
TERM 4

Week 1: Chapters 5 - 9
Week 2: Chapters 10 -14
Week 3: Chapters 15 -19
Week 4: Chapters 20 - 24
Week 5: Chapter 25 and some other stuff


Each week will will read selected bits of the book and then we will discuss our thoughts with our mystery buddies. We call them 'Mystery' because we don't know exactly where they are. We suspect they are in the US but we will be asking them questions to find out!

Mystery Skype Number 3

Yesterday we were talking to Awahono Room 6 again but they were in a different location and so were we!

First  we had to get into position again but now Ella F and Preethi were speaking

Now  that they said yes to the Southern Hemisphere we think they might be in Namibia

Then we asked if they are in South Africa and they said yes then they said that they are not near the Indian sea but they said that they are in walking distance of a beach.

Finally we guessed were they were they were in Cape Town!

Mystery Skype??

Today we will take part in our first mystery skype.

Who with? We don't know...

Which country? We don't know...

We have a list of questions to ask our mystery class and a whole lot of jobs to do to make sure we solve the mystery.


Mystery Skype Jobs

1.     Inquirers - Ask closed, geography based questions to the other class
Ella F, Preethi, Byron
2.     Question Keepers - Type already asked questions and answers into a google doc
Ella RW, Nina, Catherine, (Laptops)
3.     Google Mappers - Use Google maps/other maps to zero in on location based upon the clues

4.     Twitter – Tweet the information to the world. Maybe someone can help us?

5.     Mappers - Use atlases to zero in on location based upon the clues

6.     Runner - Problem solver for other students/Take relevant information from group to group

7.     Logical Reasoners - Use world map to remove possible countries/states. They help narrow down the choices

What's happening in the world?

 2012/2013 NEW ZEALAND SUMMER HAS BEEN THE SUNNIEST ON RECORD

New Zealand has had a very sunny summer this year and last year. The highest temperature in New Zealand was 35.1C that was recorded in Clyde in Central Otago on January the fifth also in Gisborne 9 and 10 in January.In parts of  New Zealand in the last three months have had plently of sunshine.
